Inventor and entrepreneur Ivan Yaeger visited my classroom at Yeshiva Elementary School on
opening week. Currently, he is teaching a class for the girls’ middle school. Students are
enthralled by his presentation which included opportunities to operate the robotic arm he
invented.

A campaign was created to address children's safety and the issue of online solicitation from one of Dr. Karp's initiatives as a board member on The Children's Trust.
Dr. Karp was the recipient of the South Florida Veterinary People, Pets and Vets award in 2004
and 2010 for his work with Miami-Dade County Animal Services and the Humane Society of
Greater Miami.
Several initiatives were proffered by Dr. Karp to address sexual abuse, and sex trafficking and exploitation, where partnerships were forged with community organizations such as the Women's Fund and The Children's Trust.
Mayor Norman Edelcup was a driving force in ensuring that a public school would be opened in
the city of Sunny Isles Beach.

Tracy Wilson Mourning and Principal Sally Alayon. Tracy Mourning is responsible for the
creation of the Honey Shine Mentoring Program whose mission is to encourage the balance of
mind, body, and soul in girls and young women. After serving as a principal, Mrs. Alayon ran
the school district’s mental health department.
The STEAM Scholars Banquet was an initiative I created for the purpose of recognizing our
students who excelled in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.
Before STEAM, it was STEM—the Scholars Banquet is an annual celebration of the magnificent scholarly work our top science students perform in M-DCPS.

The Bob Graham Education Center in Miami Lakes was named for Bob Graham, a former
Governor and Senator for the State of Florida.

Dr. Karp interviews David Lawrence Jr. shortly after the release of Mr. Lawrence’s autobiography. Dr. Karp served on The Children’s Trust with Mr. Lawrence for 8 years and was part of the effort to gain approval through a voter referendum that allowed for further support for children’s programming in perpetuity. Currently, the investment benefits over 36,000 school-aged children and youth across Miami-Dade each year. Dr Karp’s initiatives while serving on the board also led to campaigns to stop sexual exploitation and online internet solicitation.
Recognizing the Superintendent fo the nation’s highest honor in urban education at the Council
of Great City Schools Green-Garner Award presentation. Under Superintendent Carvalho’s
leadership, students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools achieved top scores on national
assessments, and the district greatly expanded school choice options and dramatic increases in
high school graduation rates.
Mario Luis Kreutzberger Blumenfeld known as Don Francisco is best known for hosting Sabado
Gigante. His show lasted over 53 years making it the longest running TV variety show. He is a
member of the Television Academy Hall of Fame.
